Focusaur Kickstarter & Product FAQs
Kickstarter & Backer Guide
This section covers common questions about Kickstarter, shipping, VAT, and other backer-related information.
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform where creators launch new products and supporters can back them during a live campaign. By backing a project, you’re reserving a reward before production and fulfillment are completed.
On Kickstarter, “backing” a project means supporting the campaign, usually by choosing a reward tier. This is similar to placing a pre-order, except the project is still in its crowdfunding stage rather than regular retail sale. You can also choose to back without selecting a reward — in that case, you’re supporting the project only and won’t receive an actual product.
Kickstarter uses the word “pledge” because you’re supporting a crowdfunding campaign by selecting a reward tier, rather than making a standard online purchase. If the campaign is successful, you’ll receive your selected reward once production and shipping are completed. By pledging, you’ll also become part of the Focusaur community — joining us on the product journey and sharing your ideas and feedback on both the device and the app along the way.
Yes. Your backer number is assigned based on the order in which you back our campaign. The earlier you support us, the lower your backer number will be. Backer number will be one of the factors in determining shipping priority, which means earlier backers may receive their orders sooner.
Your backer number will also be connected to future app events, exclusive perks, and other special benefits for supporters.
For this Kickstarter campaign, we will ship to the United States (excluding Alaska), the United Kingdom, Canada, EU countries, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. If your country is not listed above, you’re very welcome to contact us to check availability. Due to shipping limitations, delivery to some remote islands may not be available at this time.
The first batch of shipments will begin in July 2026.
After the Kickstarter campaign ends, we will send a reward survey through PledgeBox to collect shipping details from backers. Any applicable VAT (tax) and shipping fees will be charged at the same time through the reward survey. VAT will be charged based on the tax requirements of your shipping destination, and shipping fees will be calculated according to your shipping address and selected rewards.
For the estimated shipping fee range, please refer to the Shipping Fees section on our Kickstarter page.
No. For this Kickstarter campaign, we will arrange shipping from the corresponding regional warehouse based on your destination. As long as your order is shipped within our supported shipping destinations, no additional import duties will apply. Please note that the actual fulfillment warehouse may vary depending on inventory and logistics arrangements.
Kickstarter accepts valid debit or credit cards associated with Visa, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay, or American Express. Please note that Discover, UnionPay, and JCB are only accepted for US-based projects, and PayPal is not currently supported.
If the campaign is successfully funded, your card will be charged when the campaign ends. If the campaign does not reach its goal or is canceled before the deadline, you will not be charged. Some backers may also see a temporary authorization charge at the time of pledging.

The Super Early Bird Seat refers to our pre-launch $5 deposit campaign before Kickstarter. Supporters who joined this early stage secured exclusive perks for Focusaur’s Kickstarter campaign.
These perks include:
- Guaranteed access to the $99 Focusaur Essential Kit, with savings of up to $70.
- A free 8-pack of Focusaur-ready NFC tags
- A complimentary Focus Digital Toolkit (already sent to eligible supporters)
- 20% off future purchases in our official store within one year (accessories excluded)
- Founders Passport
How are these perks recognized?

- If you use a different email address, please contact us with the email address used for your deposit and your Kickstarter backer number. We’ll manually verify your information and make sure your supporter perks are linked to your pledge
Yes. The $99 Focusaur Essential Kit is guaranteed for deposit supporters. If the public allocation of 1,000 units is fully claimed, deposit backers can contact us at hello@focusaur.com or via Kickstarter message, and we will provide a separate secret purchase link for you.
Both bundles include the core Focusaur experience, but differ in accessories and flexibility.
The Essential Kit ($99) includes:
Focusaur device ×1
Charging dock ×1
Focusaur-ready NFC tags ×2
USB-C cable ×1
The Mastery Kit ($129) includes:
Focusaur device ×1
Charging dock ×1
Focusaur-ready NFC tags ×8
USB-C cable ×1
Magnetic disc ×1
In simple terms, the Mastery Kit offers more flexibility. The Magnetic Disc lets you charge the Focusaur main device separately without always needing the main charging dock, making it more convenient on the go. The extra NFC tags also give you more freedom to create different focus routines, habit check-ins, or usage spots.
Add-ons are optional extra items you can purchase in addition to your selected reward. After choosing your main reward tier, you can use the add-on section if you’d like to add more items to your pledge. For example, if you’d like to add an additional Essential Kit (Focusaur Lite), you can do so through the add-on section.
Product & User Guide
This section includes common questions about Focusaur’s features, setup, usage, and other product-related information.
Focusaur is more than a basic timer. It’s a distraction-free focus tool designed to support both deep work and habit-building, combining hardware and app features in one system. Depending on how you use it, this includes features such as Deep Focus mode, NFC tap-to-start, AI assistant, and habit-related tracking and guidance. We’re also continuing to improve the overall experience based on user feedback and build more exciting features over time, so Focusaur is designed to evolve — not just function as a single-purpose timer.
A phone timer can count time, but it can’t remove the phone itself as a source of distraction. Focusaur gives you a more physical and intentional way to focus: with a simple twist or press, you can start a session without unlocking your phone or dealing with notifications. As a dedicated device on your desk, it also creates a stronger sense of ritual and presence — making it easier to get into focus and stay there.
Focusaur is designed for more than just your study or work desk. The Focusaur device is compact, portable, and features magnetic attachment, making it easy to place on different space in your daily environment. Whether you’re cooking, exercising, studying, or working, it helps you stay focused and check in on your habits wherever you are.
Focusaur is not a medical device, and it does not treat, diagnose, or cure ADHD. Focusaur is designed for people who get distracted easily and want a calmer, more physical way to focus. Its tactile controls, low-distraction design, and habit-building system are meant to make it easier to start and stay engaged with focus sessions.
Focusaur is designed with privacy in mind. Core features work offline by default, and AI chat is the only feature that requires internet. We collect minimal data, and syncing only happens when you manually trigger it. Your data is transferred through an encrypted connection, and you stay in control — you can export or delete your data at any time.
The $99 Focusaur Essential bundle includes one USB-C cable, but it does not include the magnetic disc.
The $129 Focusaur Mastery bundle includes both one USB-C cable and the portable charging base.
A power plug / wall adapter is not included, so you can use a compatible local adapter for your region.
The Focusaur device can be charged in two ways:
- by placing it on the Focusaur charging dock, or
- by charging it separately through the portable charging base.
Yes. Focusaur is designed to meet the required safety and compliance standards for supported markets, including CE and other applicable certifications.
The Focusaur Device:
CE, RoHS, REACH, FCC, DOE, CEC, EU cybersecurity, Prop 65, BQB, KC, NRcan, ICED, IC-ID, TELEC, MSDS, DOE, RCM.
The Charging Dock:
CE, RoHS, REACH, DOE, CEC, FCC, EU cybersecurity, KC, Prop 65, NRcan, ICED, TELEC, RCM.
The charging dock itself does not have a built-in battery and does not store power. Battery life refers to the Focusaur device. Under typical use (around 8 focus sessions per day, 25 minutes each), the Focusaur device lasts more than 3 days on a full charge. Under light use, it can last more than 7 days.
The magnetic disc is a portable charging base for the Focusaur main device. It allows you to charge the device on its own without needing to place it on the main charging dock, giving you a more flexible and convenient way to power it at your desk or in different spaces.
Focusaur takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge.
Remove the Focusaur device from the charging dock, then go to the Settings page on the device to view the remaining battery level.
The Focusaur device features an AMOLED display. It is also equipped with a transparent protective cover to help protect the screen from everyday bumps and wear. In terms of water resistance, the Focusaur device is rated IP44, which means it is designed to resist light splashes.
You can check the SN (serial number) in two ways:
- In the app
After connecting your Focusaur device to the app, go to My Focusaur > Settings > Get Log. The device’s SN number will be shown there.
- On the device
Press and hold to enter the Settings page on the Focusaur device, then go to About Device to view the SN number directly.
Yes. Focusaur supports remote updates, and we will keep improving it over time. Future features and refinements can be delivered through device updates, so the experience can continue to evolve after launch.
Yes. Focusaur currently supports English, Chinese, French, German, and Spanish. We plan to continue expanding language support over time to make the experience more accessible for users in different regions.
Yes. Focusaur can be used on its own for regular focus sessions. Once the Focusaur device has been configured to the app, features like regular focus, Deep Focus, and habit check-ins can still be used even when the app is not actively connected. Your records will sync back to the app the next time the device reconnects.
On the Focusaur device, open Connect App to display the device’s dedicated QR code. Then, in the app, go to My Focusaur and tap the “+” button to start scanning and pairing.
There are two ways to unbind your Focusaur device.
You can go to My Focusaur in the app, open Settings, and tap Unbind to remove the device from your account.
You can also unbind the device by going to the device Settings and selecting Reset, which clears the device data and removes the current binding.
No. Each Focusaur device can only be linked to one app account at a time. If you want to connect it to a different account, you’ll need to unbind the device first in the app settings.
There is currently no limit to the number of Focusaur devices that can be linked to one account.
Yes. Both the Focusaur device sound effects and built-in ambient sound can be turned off.
Go to Settings and turn Sound Effects off under Effect Toggle. Please note that the Focusaur device only supports turning sound effects on or off — it does not support separate volume adjustment for the effect.
Background music volume can be adjusted through the sound settings. Before a focus session starts, you can enter Settings and adjust the Sound Levels. During a focus session, you can also rotate the device directly to bring up the volume control and adjust the background music more quickly.
Yes. Both the Focusaur device and the app support count-up focus sessions. On the device, simply set the time to 00 and short press the main unit to start counting up. In the app, set the timer to 00:00 and start your focus session to begin count-up timing.
Yes. Count-up Deep Focus is supported on both the app and the Focusaur device.
In the app: set the focus time to 00:00, then turn on Deep Focus Mode to start a count-up deep focus session.
On the device: count-up Deep Focus can be used in By Flipping Phone mode or By NFC Tap mode. In the app, simply set the focus duration to ♾️ and turn on Deep Focus Mode to start a count-up deep focus session.
On both the app and the Focusaur device, the maximum duration is 120 minutes for count-up mode and 60 minutes for countdown mode.
NFC tags are quick tap-to-trigger tags designed for use with Focusaur. They are specially encoded for the Focusaur system. You can assign each tag to a specific action, such as starting a focus session or checking in a habit, then simply tap it with your Focusaur device to trigger it instantly.
Having more tags gives you more flexibility, since you can assign different tags to different habits, focus setups, or spaces around your home or desk. For example, you might use one for work focus, one for study, and another for a daily habit check-in. The NFC tags are also rewritable, so you can reassign them to different habits or focus setups at any time. This makes it easier to build routines that feel natural and convenient.
In the app, go to My Focusaur and tap NFC Tag to start the setup. Then use your device to sense any NFC sticker, and choose whether you want that tag to be linked to Start Focusing or Habit Check-In.
If you choose Start Focusing, you can further set the focus duration and related tags.
If you choose Habit Check-In, you can select which habit you want that NFC tag to trigger.
Once linked, you can use that NFC tag as a shortcut for either starting a focus session or checking in a habit.
After setting up your habits in the app and syncing them to the Focusaur device, you can check in directly rotating and pressing the device. You can also link an NFC sticker or dinosaur figure to a habit, then simply tap it with Focusaur device for a faster check-in.
Deep Focus Mode is a stricter focus setting for moments when you want to stay off your phone and reduce the temptation to interrupt yourself. You can start it in three ways:
- By Flipping Phone
After setup in the app, simply place your phone face down, and the Focusaur device will enter Deep Focus Mode. If you pick up your phone during the session, a 10-second countdown reminder in your phone will begin. Put it back down in time to continue focusing.
- By Tags
After syncing your settings in the app, you can start Deep Focus Mode directly on the Focusaur device. Once the session begins, place the Focusaur device on your phone. If either the phone or the device is moved during the session, the focus session will fail immediately, and the dinosaur egg will stop hatching.
- By NFC Tags
Once Deep Focus Mode is linked to an NFC sticker or dinosaur figure, you can simply tap it with Focusaur to start instantly.
No. Calendar sync is optional. If you do not want to sync your Apple Calendar or Google Calendar with the app, you can simply leave sync turned off and create schedules directly in the app instead. If you enable calendar sync, you can also turn it off again at any time.
Focusaur supports a “Forward to Schedule” feature. Simply forward an email or message (such as from Slack, WhatsApp, or email) to Focusaur. It will automatically extract the time information and sync the event to your schedule on the device — with no manual entry required.
For regular functions such as focus sessions, habit check-ins, and schedule sync, Focusaur does not need to be connected to Wi-Fi. However, if you want to use the AI Assistant feature, you’ll need to configure Wi-Fi for the device in the app first.
After binding the device to the app, go to My Focusaur in the app, open Settings, and tap Configure Wi-Fi to start the connection setup. During setup, please place the Focusaur device on the charging dock and make sure the dock is connected to power.
Currently, Focusaur supports setting only one focus duration at a time. It does not yet support built-in interval cycles such as Pomodoro-style focus-and-break sessions. However, we’re actively listening to user feedback and ideas, and we’ll continue to explore this feature in future updates.
There are two ways to hatch a 1-star dinosaur, and both can be done through the app or the Focusaur device:
1. Complete a focus session of at least 25 minutes
2. Complete one full round of habit check-ins
Yes. To hatch a dinosaur through a focus session, you need to complete the entire focus round you set. If the session is interrupted before it ends — even if you have already focused for more than 25 minutes — the hatch will still fail, and the device will show a focus failed result.
The Focusaur AI Assistant helps with both action and planning. It can help you start focus sessions, create, edit, or delete habits and schedules, scan for schedule conflicts and suggest adjustments, analyze your past activity to identify your best focus hours, and provide guidance related to focus, habit-building, and daily planning. It also helps bridge the gap between knowing and doing, using AI Coach and schedule integration to make it easier to start focusing right away.
To use Focusaur’s AI features, please make sure the device is:
1. placed on the charging dock
2. connected to power
3. configured with Wi-Fi
Once these requirements are met, you can access and use the AI features. To start the AI voice assistant, simply say “Focusaur” or “Hi Focusaur.” You can also manually twist the Focusaur device to AI Chat to activate it.
Yes. You can set an alarm in the app, and once it’s configured, your Focusaur device will ring at the scheduled time as a reminder.
At the moment, Focusaur does not support Bluetooth audio playback from your phone. Focusaur currently includes one built-in white noise track, and switching between different white noise options is not supported yet. We know background sound options are important for many users, and it’s something we may explore in the future.
AI Assistant, focus background music, and LED light effects require the Focusaur device to be placed on the charging dock and connected to power.
